You can sync unlimited data (based on the storage capacity of the devices), between an unlimited number of devices (I haven't seen any device limits mentioned anywhere) regardless of OS across the globe.

Even in its current incarnation I don't have any use for most of the Pro features (my use case involves a single user). But I don't want to give money in perpetuity to develop features I probably don't care about. If version 3.0 comes out next year with a bunch of sexy features, then I might consider paying again to get those features. I'd gladly pay $40 for this piece of software. I'll gladly pay a subscription for services, but what service does Sync provide? As far as I can gather, the whole point is that nothing lives on their servers. It's not the price, it's being able to take them at their word. But so long as they are not being honest with their consumers, they won't.

I, too use Macrium for image backups (and also Veeam Agent for MicroSoft windows on some machines). I don't know if it still does that, but I know SyncBackPro does not.
But it scattered little tracking files in every directory - kind of messy. I also tried GoodSync at one point because it would sync directly across the internet without using an intermediate, vendor-based connector. I've only needed it twice in over 10 years. It has a versions options that can help protect you against corrupted files.īy the way, email support from 2BrightSparks has been free (with paid software), prompt and accurate. It has a zillion options and is very geeky, but you can switch between Easy and Expert when creating a new job or modifying a job if you don't want to go all-out geek. Glad to see that you are also using Macrium. Again, my recommendations would be ArqBackup and Duplicacy (note, not to be confused with Duplicati)

Most of backup software support multiple different targets. Instead, backup to two separate cloud destinations. The latter one supports erasure coding, which provides improved chances of recovery from bad blocks that will develop.īetter yet - forget about messing with local external hard drives, even if you everything right there is no guarantee your data will survive: it is not feasible to maintain it properly this way long term. As you noticed, versioning by copying modified file to another folder is too naive approach. Any software that has “sync” in it and supports “backup” scenarios does it as an afterthought and poorly. This is why you need versioned, deduplicated backup. You will eventually replicate it to all your destinations and won’t be able to recover uncorrupted version. Think about what happens when one of your files gets corrupted silently.
